Fitzy Fam - I've been in Boston since March 12th, and that was the day the AHL was canceled. So, my two boys that play in the league came home. My other sons (one in college and one in prep school) also came home a week later and did classes online. With them and my wife, we've been home together since the middle of March and it's been wonderful, it really has. After playing so long with the schedule of an NHL player, then when I got into management and all that travel, and the kids' schedule growing up, this is probably the most I have sat down with the family for dinner in a decade. So, it's been the silver lining to all of this, just the amount of time I've been able to recapture with my family.
Run of the Mill(ie) - We bought a dog. Our yellow lab passed away in January, so we went out and got a golden doodle named Millie. She is wonderful. I can't even get over how attached all my boys are to the dog. It's going to be hard when they leave. It's like having a baby.
In The Swing of Things - We've been staying busy at night with card games, and we also bought these Calloway practice balls, birdie balls. It's a hollow plastic ball that you can full swing at, so we've had birdie ball chipping contests a lot. We're a pretty competitive family.
Run, Fitzy, Run - I joined a running challenge where you have to do a mile each day just to stay in this contest, but I always do more. I've been doing it for 110 days now and it's been a lot of fun. My hips, back, and knees that all used to bother me are actually fine. A bad day for me is two miles, but normally I'll go five or six, so I try to hit 22 miles per week on average, which is a lot for someone like me.
Low Key Celly - We didn't make that big of a deal of it because the interim tag didn't affect how I did my job. I've always had the attitude that I was the GM, and I was always doing that job. I don't want to say it was anti-climactic - we were home for dinner, which was great, and Kate Madigan drove up with her mom and they stayed for drinks. They brought balloons and they were attached to the gate by the pool for at least a week before deflating.
Binging The Bubble - I read a couple of books. I have a book that Scott O'Neil (HBSE CEO) recommended that I'm going to start, which is by the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger. I'm also watching Yellowstone right now on the Paramount Network, really into that and Billions on Showtime. I'm not really into any of those TV contest shows, but I watch a little bit of The Voice. My wife watches it, and I'll poke my head in mostly at the tail end and watch a little bit of it. But really, since the NHL started, I've been all eyes on the games.
