New Jersey Day

by Anthony Oliva / New Jersey Devils
Each Canadian province and territory is alotted a day during the XXI Winter Olympics to showcase their heritage, culture, history and talent with Canada, and all the world.  There's Quebec Day, Ontario Day, British Columbia Day... You get the idea.

I only found out about this on Thursday night, Prince Edward Island Day.  The province donated giveaway items at the Canada vs. Switzerland hockey game, and when four massive boxes showed up in the the entertainer's green room during the first intermission, the hopeful rhetorical question was, "More tee shirts for the fans?"

Nope. They were hats.

Straw hats.

With orange braids.

Prince Edward Island's contribution to Canada Hockey Place on PEI Day were Anne of Green Gables hats, from the 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, who had grown up on PEI.

What kind of things would the garden State showcase to the world if there was a New Jersey Day?  Send an e-mail with your thoughts, however outlandish they may be, and I'll post them in this space later in the week.
