Following the Devils' buyout of left-winger Michael Cammalleri last week, GM Ray Shero was on the hunt for a new source of offensive production for his club. Thanks to a plethora of assets and the Washington Capitals' need for cap-space, Shero hammered out a deal that brought Marcus Johansson to New Jersey in exchange for two 2018 NHL Draft picks.

Johansson joins an already young core of Devils at the left-wing position. New Jersey has 25-year-old Taylor Hall under contract through the 2019-2020 season, as well as 21-year-old Miles Wood, who will play under his ELC before becoming a restricted free agent prior to the 2018-19 campaign. The addition of Johansson (who is under contract through the 2018-19 season) provides depth, youth and experience at the position that has been needed in recent years.
The Capitals have had a breadth of offensive talent, which has been highlighted by perennial NHL All-Star Alex Ovechkin, but Johansson has been among their top point producers. Last season, Marcus Johansson finished fourth on the club with 58 points (24g-34a) and a +25 (+/-) rating. Those two stats would have ranked first in both categories for New Jersey.
During his time in the nation's capital, Johansson showed how dynamic of a scorer he is by lighting the lamp with skill, power and finesse, while also having a knack for tallying clutch goals. Check out some of his best from the 2016-17 season for a taste of what to expect when he hits the ice in Jersey.
