Making Trades in Vancouver

by Anthony Oliva / New Jersey Devils
The NHL may have put a freeze on trading during the Olympics, but there is still plenty of that going down in Vancouver.  Collectors and traders feverishly scramble to amass a bank of pins – 2010 Olympic and otherwise – then swap them with each other.  In almost convention-like fashion, a strip of city street along the water serves as a gathering place for the collectors.

The one pin many of them will not go home with?  A special performer's pin given to volunteer's of the Games.  The pin features Olympic mascots Miga and Quatchi.  The mascots, particularly Quatchi, have become marketing juggernauts in Vancouver.

It's hard to find a a piece of merchandise that doesn't bear the likenesses of the "sea bear" or the sasquatch.  Quatchi, in particular, has been an enormous hit with fans.  Still, the lumbering giant is no NJ Devil.  For more on the mascots' origins, click here.
