Luke Hughes USA

It didn't take long for Luke Hughes to make an impact for Team USA at the World Junior Championship being held in Edmonton, Alberta.
Hughes had the opening goal of the tournament for Team USA, scoring with 6:21 remaining in the first period against Germany to take a 1-0 lead. Hughes calmly received a pass from Landon Slaggert, before taking a beat and releasing the puck off a slapshot from the point past German netminder Nikita Quapp.

After forty minutes of play, Hughes continued to lead his team in ice time with 15:45 total time on ice.

The game would end in a 5-1 final and head coach Nate Leaman relied on Hughes for a total of 22:15 of ice time, the most of any player on the roster. Luke was also named Team USA's Player of the Game.

The U.S. outshot Germany 50-11.
Earlier in the day, Czechia came from behind to beat Slovakia. Devils draft pick Petr Hauser, who was selected in the fifth round, 141st overall this year, was dressed as the thirteenth forward and played just two shifts in a Czechia 5-4 victory.
