NEW YORK CITY, August 5, 2013: The Canadian Association of New York’s (CANY) 34th Annual Hockey Achievement Award Dinner will honor retired defenceman Scott Stevens on September 9th, 2013 at Cipriani 42 Street.
One of the most valuable players of his generation, Stevens combined hard-hitting defensive play, offensive flair, and strong leadership skills. He captained the New Jersey Devils to four Stanley Cup Finals appearances in nine years, winning three of them. In 2000, Stevens won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Mr. Stevens will join other hockey legends who have received this Award including Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Mario Lemieux, Jean Beliveau, and Maurice “Rocket” Richard.
The dinner will feature an all-star roster of hockey heroes and VIP’s including previous award winners.
CANY’s Hockey Achievement Award Dinner is one of the key fundraising events for the CANY Foundation which supports New York based charities. They include Ice Hockey in Harlem, an innovative hockey program for less fortunate youth that focuses on providing educational opportunities. “We are particularly proud of the Dinner’s charitable focus,” says CANY President, Dean Keyworth. ”We support some great charities that resonate with our members like Ice Hockey in Harlem and the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research NYC.”
