With a victory under the Devils belts earlier this week against the Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey hopes to build upon what went well for them on Tuesday when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night.

"It comes back to the mentality and commitment we played with against Pittsburgh," head coach John Hynes said. "We addressed certain things in our game that we thought were really good and things that we want to continue to get better and be a little tighter and be a little stingier defensively. That mentality and that effort have to continue to get stronger."

Nico Hischier will miss a second consecutive game, marking just the second time in his career that he has missed a game. Hischier was remarkably healthy in his rookie season playing in all 82 games, before suffering an upper body injury in Sunday's game against Winnipeg.
The Devils top line of Taylor Hall, Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri will play a third consecutive game together as they continue to build their chemistry. On Tuesday, the Devils top line accounted for a seven-point night, four of which went to Taylor Hall.
"Last game was good but I don't think I've played my best hockey yet this year," Hall said. "Certainly, I have another level to get to consistently, while the other night was a good stepping stone, it's about being consistent with that, whether the points or goals come, it's about playing that way night in, night out. I don't think I've done that yet this year. Hopefully [the four-point night] was the start of something."
"I try not to change my game too much," Zajac said, who has a goal and an assist since joining the top line. "They're two great players who create a lot offensively and any time they get the puck something good usually happens from it. My job is just trying to make sure I shoot the puck and support them as much as possible."
The Devils lineup will remain the same, with Keith Kinkaid starting a second consecutive game after posting the victory on Tuesday. Kinkaid is 6-2-0 in his career against the Flyers, the most wins he has against any opposition.
