Great Games #1: Schneider blanks Rangers

by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devils looks back at 10 of the top Devils games from last season.

#1 - Oct. 19, 2013: Devils 4, Rangers 0

As if the Hudson River rivalry weren’t intense enough, the Devils’ 0-4-3 start to 2013-14 meant the stakes were even higher for their first meeting with the Rangers.

But back in New Jersey following a five-game trip that included four stops in western Canada, the Devils would come up big in the Battle of the Hudson. Cory Schneider, making his first Prudential Center start, stopped all 22 shots he faced to record his first win as a Devil with a 4-0 blanking of the Rangers.

"I think you saw from the drop of the puck to the last horn, we didn’t change the way we played,” Schneider said. "We played 60 minutes of the way we want to play. I think we’ve seen that in spurts and for periods of time, but I think this is the first time we’ve carried it throughout a full game. You saw the results; it’s a good thing.”

The support from The Rock's sellout crowd had Schneider feeling right at home in his new surroundings.

"These fans have been tremendous since I’ve gotten here, even in the preseason,” he said. "I’m glad we were able to win on home ice here after we’d been away for awhile, especially against a rival like the Rangers.”

Adam Henrique was one of four different Devils goal scorers, while Jaromir Jagr and Marek Zidlicky each chipped in with a pair of assists.

"Every game [against the Rangers], the intensity level’s always here,” said Henrique. "I think that might’ve helped us, but everybody showed up today."
