Gelinas: 'Great experience' in Albany

by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devils
Eric Gelinas
On their road to the NHL, many of today’s Devils gained valuable experience playing for the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany Devils.

Don't miss the chance to see the next generation of Devils when Albany hosts the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Prudential Center on Wednesday, Jan. 21!

Two-plus seasons in the AHL did more than prepare Eric Gelinas for the NHL. They helped him adapt to the rigors of a new position at the pro level. His offensive talents were evident early thanks to a 37-point (16g-27a) rookie campaign with Albany in 2011-12.

He made his NHL debut at the end of the next season, emerging as a New Jersey regular in 2013-14, his first NHL campaign.

Here's what he had to say about his time with the A-Devils:

"For me, I think the time I spent in the American League was really to learn the position. I played juniors as a defenseman, but I really learned the position in the American League with Tommy [Albelin] there. It was a great experience for me, and I don't think I'd be the player I am now if I didn't play in the American League."

On Albany-Bridgeport at Prudential Center:

"I think it's going to be a cool experience. Hopefully they get a lot of fans and it's going to be a nice atmosphere here. Some of the players have played in NHL games before, so they kind of know the feeling, but for the younger guys there that never had the chance, really, it's going to be a nice experience."
