Devils prospect Artur Gavrus
has been added to the Team Belarus roster for the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in the Czech Republic.
Belarus begins preliminary-round play Saturday against Slovenia at CEZ Arena in Ostrava.
Gavrus was New Jersey’s sixth-round pick, 180th overall, in 2012, and has spent the last two seasons in the KHL with Dynamo Minsk. He posted five goals, four assists for nine points in 36 games this season, giving him 13 points (6g-7a) in 66 KHL contests.
The 5-11 center played two campaigns with Owen Sound (OHL) from 2011-13, registering a career-high 37 points (15g-22a) with the Attack in 2011-12.
Owen Sound traded Gavrus to Oshawa in 2013, the same year the native of Raitichi, Belarus, left North America for the KHL.
