The American Hockey League announced today that Lowell Devils defenseman Tyler Eckford has been selected to the Canadian AHL All-Stars for the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Time Warner Communications, to be played January 18 & 19 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.

Eckford, 24, is currently tied for third on the Devils in scoring with 21 points. He ranks first on Lowell with a +12 plus/minus rating and is tied for the team lead in assists with 16. The second-year pro out of Vancouver, BC was named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 15, 2009 as he notched two goals, five assists and a plus-6 rating in three games.

A seventh round pick (217th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Eckford skated for three seasons with University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Last season during his rookie year, Eckford’s 27 points led all Devils defensemen, while his 25 assists ranked third on the squad.

The 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic will feature the top talent in the American Hockey League competing in the 2010 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Monday, January 18 (8:00 p.m. ET) and the 2010 AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday, January 19 (6:00 p.m. ET), and will be televised live nationally in the United States and Canada.

Of the 492 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 94 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including current Devils Yann Danis, Patrik Elias, Andy Greene, Mike Mottau and Zach Parise.
