WHAT'S THE BUZZ

"Helge Grans looks to be one of the top defenseman prospects coming out of Sweden and has been excellent for Malmö so far in J20 SuperElit, and has a big role on their powerplay sometimes even playing double shifts."

- Christoffer Hedlund, Director of European Scouting at Elite Prospects

CUT TO THE CHASE:

Listed as number 6 on Central Scouting's European list, Grans spent the last season playing with Malmo in Sweden. As number six on the European list, he is the top ranked European defenseman.
He spent time this past season in both the Swedish Hockey League and Malmo's junior team in the SuperElit league. With the junior squad, Grans was a point per game player, scoring 27 points in 27 appearances, while adding three points in the 21 games in the SHL.
As a player who loves to join the rush, Grans is touted for his size at 6'3. In a draft that isn't particularly deep when it comes to defensemen, Grans is ranked as one of the top European blueliners, after being ranked 21st at the mid-term mark. He is seen as a big, two-way defenseman with smarts for playmaking and passing, making him a mobile blueliner with size.
He has an ability to run a power play and his combination of size and speed work well in his favor. Although he has a towering presence at 6'3, he is perhaps less physical that his frame would suggest, instead Grans has an eye for the puck, looking for the breakout pass or move.

DID YOU KNOW?

At just 16-years-old, Grans had an opportunity to compete in Sweden's top league. He played five games in the SHL as a 16-year-old.
Similarly, when he spent time in the SHL this past season, he was just one of four 17-year-old players in the league who are draft eligible and the only defenseman available.
