In the final preseason game at Prudential Center this season, the Devils will host the Islanders at 7 p.m. tonight. Here's what you need to know:
1) After a standout performance against the Rangers on Saturday, head coach John Hynes wants another look at the Hall-Henrique-Bennett line, but the bigger microscope will be the one general manager Ray Shero has focused on the bottom six as at least three of them won't make the opening night roster. With Fiddler, Josefson, Kalinin and Smith-Pelly getting the night off, this is a great opportunity for those on the bubble to get important minutes and make management's decision as hard as possible.
2) Hopefully, this isn't a sign of things to come, but there are two injuries to report. Jon Merrill broke his finger last week against Philadelphia and Luke Gazdic broke his foot blocking a shot in Saturday's game against the Rangers. Both are expected to be out of the lineup for four weeks. Also worth noting is that the six players recalled from Albany for Monday's game in Brooklyn have been sent back. The current training camp roster now stands at 30 with 17 forwards, nine defenseman and four goalies.
3) Tonight's game will not be televised, but Matt Loughlin and I will have you covered with a pre-game show at 5:45 p.m. on Facebook Live, live player interviews with analysis during each intermission on Periscope, and a post-game show on Facebook Live soon after the final buzzer.
Projected lines for tonight:
Hall - Henrique - Bennett
Cammalleri - Zajac - Palmieri
Wood - Blandisi - Speers
Boucher - Zacha - Lappin
Greene - Lovejoy
Auvitu - Quincey
Helgeson - Severson
Schneider (expected to play the entire game)
