After a busy slate of events during the NHL regular season, the Devils Grassroots program led the way with three more clinics in May, and there's plenty of excitement planned for the month ahead.
A pair of spring clinics on May 23 at Richard Codey Arena at South Mountain (West Orange, NJ) and on May 30 at Union Sports Arena each drew over 50 participants, who received instruction on basic ice hockey techniques from Tommy Albelin, Rob Skrlac, and the rest of the Devils Grassroots staff.
The Devils then wrapped up the month with a roller hockey clinic in Howell, NJ, attended by nearly 150 parents and children. The kids in attendance got the chance to participate in skating, shooting and passing drills, then tested their new skills in scrimmages.
Albelin and Skrlac will be joined throughout the summer by fellow Alumni representatives Tom Chorske and Bruce Driver to give valuable instruction on proper hockey techniques.
But when the fun is done on the rink, it will be followed by autograph sessions and Devils giveaways such as travel mugs, pucks, stickers, trading cards, team photos and posters.
The offseason action continues on June 13, with the Borough of South River Street Devils' annual Super Skills competition. Driver, a member of the Devils' 1995 Stanley Cup Championship team, will be in attendance to speak about how the right attitude and goals can lead to success in life, both on and off the ice.
Through the Grassroots department, the Devils have partnered up with more than 30 local ice and roller hockey rinks throughout the metropolitan area in which the team provides clinics, in-arena banners, dasherboard signs, mascot appearances, email blasts, Alumni appearances and Devils contests.
