Parise and the Devils come within inches of winning it on a PP in overtime, but denied by Jose Theodore. Headed to a shootout. What a game.

End of regulation. Headed to overtime for the second time in three games of this road trip. A sweep is still in the cards for the Devils, who trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes. New Jersey has grabbed five of a possible six points on the trip.

David Clarkson's second of the season has tied the contest, 2-2, at 13:34 of the third
. Niclas Bergfors set up Clarkson's one-timer from the bottom of the right circle after a furious shift by their line with Dainius Zubrus. Devils have come all the way back from a 2-0 first-period deficit.

Jamie Langenbrunner's shorthanded forecheck draws a holding call on Nicklas Backstrom, wiping out 1:17 of Washington's fifth PP of the night at 8:18. Devils penalty killers are a perfect 5/5 against the high-powered Caps offense.

PK SHINES IN THIRD: Devils kill off two Caps power plays including 53 seconds of a 5-on-3 after Brodeur's high-sticking penalty at 5:12 of the third.

Third period underway…

**End of the second period. Devils had the lone goal of the frame despite getting outshot, 12-7. New Jersey PK was perfect in two tries. Through 40 minutes, Rolston and Zach Parise are tied with a team-high three shots apiece.

"They've got a lot of guys that can hurt you, no question," Rolston told MSG's Steve Cangialosi. "You can't give them time. I think of the biggest things is we're killing some big penalties right now."

Brodeur robs Green one-timer with 12 seconds left on Johnny Oduya's holding minor.

DEVILS SCORE, TRAIL 2-1: Brian Rolston's second of the season cuts the Caps' lead in half at 8:18 of the second period… Rob Niedermayer fed cross-ice for a Rolston top-shelf blast from the right circle.
Niedermayer extends his points streak to four games (2g-2a).

Second period underway...

**End of the first period. Despite the 2-0 deficit, shots favored the Devils 7-6 after 20 minutes. New Jersey had the only power play of the period when Knuble tripped up Jay Pandolfo 55 seconds into the game. Alex Ovechkin has two assists and set up linemate Mike Knuble's second of the year. Knuble has a helper on Mike Green's first of the season.

FIGHT: David Clarkson and Washington's Chris Clark square off at 15:02 of first. Clarkson's the more experienced fighter; defensive bout didn't go long before refs got in between.

CAPS SCORE, 2-0: Brian Rolston robbed by Jose Theodore on a backhand redirection, and the Caps turn it the other way to make it 2-0 on Mike Knuble's second of the season. Ovechkin set up Knuble's shot from the right circle. Brodeur got most of it, but not all, as the puck just got over the line at 14:16 of the first.

CAPS SCORE, 1-0: Mike Green's first of the season has put the Capitals ahead 1-0 at 9:06 of the first period. Alex Ovechkin's centering feed from the right circle caromed off Johnny Oduya's stick and on goal, where Martin Brodeur was forced to make a stop. The puck found Green at the left dot, and he rifled it top-shelf.

Illkka Pikkarainen and Andrew Peters in the lineup tonight; Matt Halischuk and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond out.
