Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today signed defenseman Joshua Jacobs
to a three-year entry-level contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
The contract will begin with the 2016-17 season and he will report to the Albany Devils (AHL) on an Amateur Try-Out agreement.
Jacobs, 20, was selected by New Jersey in the second round, 41st overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft. He finished this season when Sarnia (OHL) was eliminated from the playoffs on Tuesday. In 67 games, he scored four goals and 20 assists for 24 points, while totaling 38 penalty minutes. Jacobs added five assists in the Sting’s seven-game series against Sault Ste. Marie.
He spent the 2014-15 season with Michigan State (Big 10), where he posted nine assists and 26 penalty minutes in 35 games. Following that campaign, Jacobs was named to Big 10 All-Rookie Team.
He spent two seasons, 2012-13 and 2013-14, with Indiana (USHL). In 104 total games, he scored seven goals and 31 assists while accumulating 98 penalty minutes. He helped lead the Ice to the Clark Cup-USHL Championship and played in the USHL All-Star Game during his final season.
The 6’2”, 200lb. Shelby Township, MI native was born on February 15, 1996.
