Devils reduce training camp roster to 32

by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devils
The Devils today reduced their training camp roster to 32, by sending 11 players to the AHL’s Albany Devils. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.

Sent to Albany were:  defensemen Tyler Eckford and Olivier Magnan-Grenier;  and forwards Patrick Davis, Stephen Gionta, David McIntyre, Brad Mills, Tim Sestito, Michael Swift, Alexander Vasyunov, Chad Wiseman, and Vladimir Zharkov.

"They're not officially assigned there, we've just broken training camp," Lamoriello said. "You can see a player coming back and forth. We just wanted to break the numbers so that we have five lines. Right now we have five sets of defense here, so that we can get this group together. We've had two practices to give the coaching staff a chance to mix the same people and the same lines on the ice at the same time. But there could be some of these players that could be brought in for the weekend to play, depending upon how things go tonight and how practices go."

Some of the players will skate in Albany's preseason game in Hartford on Saturday.

"None of this roster situation up here is that this is the final roster," Lamoriello said. "There could be people interchanged."
