Devils recall D Anssi Salmela

by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devils – The Devils have recalled defenseman Anssi Salmela from Lowell (AHL), it was announced Wednesday.

Salmela, 24, has played in 29 games with the Devils' AHL affiliate since he was assigned to Lowell on Dec. 3. He leads Lowell defensemen with eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 36 total AHL appearances this season, and is tied for fourth overall on the club in scoring.

The 6-1, 200 lb. rearguard began the season in New Jersey, where he registered three assists in 15 games. He made his NHL debut in the Devils' home-opening 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders, and recorded his first career point with an assist versus the New York Rangers on Nov. 12.

The native of Tampere, Fin., was signed by the Devils as a free agent on May 30, 2008.
