The Devils have re-signed forward Jordin Tootoo to a new contract, Devils' President Lou Lamoriello announced on Saturday.
Tootoo, 32, made last year's squad after attending training camp as a pro tryout. He registered 10 goals and 15 points in 68 games with New Jersey, and led the team with 72 penalty minutes. The goal total was his best since 2007-08, when he notched 11 with Nashville.
Tootoo, who chronicled his path to sobriety in his book All the Way: My Life on Ice, was also nominated by the New Jersey chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association for this year's Masterton Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL player exemplifying perseverance and dedication to hockey.
The product of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, has 59 goals, 90 assists for 149 points and 880 penalty minutes in 607 NHL games. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
