Devils re-sign defenseman Reece Scarlett to one-year contract

– The New Jersey Devils today re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Reece Scarlett to a one-year, two-way contract worth $600,000 at the NHL level. The announcement was made by Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Scarlett, 23, spent last season with Albany (AHL) scoring four goals and 22 assists for 26 points and 64 penalty minutes in 60 games played. He also skated in 10 Calder Cup Playoff matches before the A-Devils were eliminated in the North Division Finals. He has played the past three seasons, 2013-14 through 2015-16, with the Devils’ organization. In 165 AHL games, he has totaled 12 goals, 59 assists and 71 points with 109 penalty minutes.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, he played four-plus seasons with Swift Current (WHL), from 2008-09 through 2012-13, and was an alternate captain for the club in his last two seasons of junior hockey. In 276 WHL games with the Broncos, he tallied 25 goals and 108 assists for 133 points and 248 penalty minutes. Scarlett played in the CHL Top Prospects Game and represented Canada at the under-18 World Junior Championships in 2011. The 6’1”, 175-lb. blueliner was New Jersey’s 5th choice (sixth round) in the 2011 NHL Draft.
