The Devils have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Eric Gelinas, President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello announced Monday.
"Just happy to have everybody here, everybody ready,” Lamoriello said. "It’s the first step towards getting our team together. We’ve got all our players here, and now training camp begins."
Gelinas posted seven goals and 22 assists in 60 games as a rookie last season. His 29 points tied him for third among NHL rookie blueliners and was the sixth-highest total by a freshman defender in team history.
"I'm a player. I want to play; I was eager to play," Gelinas said. "I was glad that we made that decision [to sign] before camp."
He's hoping to build on a season in which he tied for second on the club with 17 power-play points (5g-12a), matching Jaromir Jagr (5g-12a) and Patrik Elias (4g-13a).
"It's going to be a big season for me. I've got to show up and be good," Gelinas said.
Rookies reported Monday morning for photos and physicals. Veterans are set to report Thursday.
