newjerseydevils.com – The Devils will open the 2008-09 season at Prudential Center against the New York Islanders on Friday, Oct. 10, the National Hockey League announced today.
As part of the league's new scheduling matrix, each team will face divisional opponents six times (three home, three road), for a total of 24 games. Every club will play 40 games within its conference but outside its division (10 opponents) twice at home and twice on the road.
The remaining 18 games in the 82-game schedule will involve each team playing each team in the other conference at least once – home or away – with the three remaining games devoted to interconference "at large" scheduling. For the Devils, that will include home and away match-ups with Chicago, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
The complete '08-09 schedule is set to be released on Thursday, July 17.
