SAN JOSE, CA- Making life difficult on themselves.
The New Jersey Devils put themselves in a 3-1 hole after the first period against the San Jose Sharks, a hole they could not fight out of on Tuesday night. The Sharks continued piled on the goals and chased Cory Schneider from the net in the Devils 6-2 road loss.

The Devils remain in the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, just one point ahead of the Florida Panthers.
Here are 10 takeaways from the game:
1. Cory Schneider started in net for the first time since March 8 against the Winnipeg Jets. After giving up three goals on nine shots in the first period Schneider was pulled at 9:22 of the second period after making just 10 of 14 saves.
2. Jesper Bratt was back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch Sunday in Anaheim. Bratt played on the fourth line alongside Brian Boyle and Drew Stafford where he played 11:51 with zero shots on goal.
3. The Devils were down a goal early against the Sharks. Sharks forward Eric Fehr put San Jose up at the 5:32 mark. Schneider looked surprised to see Fehr with the puck after it bounced off the glass behind his net and straight to Fehr's stick where he lifted the puck top-shelf for the Sharks' 1-0 lead.
4. Taylor Hall turned on the jets to score his career-high 32nd goal of the season. Hall skated by both Sharks defensemen, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Justin Braun to go one-on-on with goaltender Martin Jones. Hall wristed a shot, top shelf past Jones to the game at one at 11:19 of the first period.

8. The penalty kill didn't fare much better. The Devils penalty killers had a tough night giving up two goals on two opportunities to the Sharks.
9. One area in which the Devils did excel was in the hit department. New Jersey outhit San Jose 28-17.
10. The Devils concluded the Western swing of their six-game road trip where they went 3-2-0. To finish the season-long road trip the Devils will travel to Pittsburgh to play the Penguins on Friday night.
