GAME RECAP: Devils Lose Game 4

      COLUMNS: To the Brink

      TV & RADIO

You can watch the game on TNT at 7 p.m.

You can listen to the game on the Devils Hockey Network.

      PRE-GAME STORY

RALEIGH, NC - The Devils did not hold a morning skate ahead of Game 5 at PNC Arena. Head coach Lindy Ruff did meet with the media two hours before puck drop to discuss a variety of topics.

He said the team will go back to a 12-forward, six-defensemen lineup. Ruff would not reveal his starting goaltender.

      Rest is a Weapon

The Devils did not practice Wednesday and did not skate in the morning Thursday.

"Just come to the rink fresh and not waste a couple of hours," Ruff said. "Met at the hotel and we're ready to go."

      Mood

Ruff said that the club's mood is "awesome. Upbeat. Same type of mood they had before Game 7 with the Rangers."

Ruff noted that the Devils lost Game 6 to New York and responded with a win in Game 7.

"You move forward from your previous game," Ruff said. "We were able to do that in the Rangers' series. We need to be able to do that in this series. We're really just worried about one game."

      Patience

One area the Devils need to be better is in their patience, particularly when they fall behind in a game. The club tends to chase the game when trailing, which leads to turnovers and poor play.

"When you get down by a couple, which is different than the regular season, you tend to press a little bit more," Ruff said. "We can't let one goal bother us. Even if it's a second goal, you can't all of a sudden start playing loose. We gambled on a few opportunities, we didn't have people in place in the D zone and it made it worse."
