Devils prospects are guaranteed for a podium sweep at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship today in Montreal.
Yegor Rykov and Team Russia defeated Sweden, 2-1, in overtime in the bronze medal game. Rykov had an assist on the opening goal and finished the tournament with seven points, a goal and six assists. The 6'2, 195 pound defenseman, who was drafted in the fifth round this past June, was named as one of the three best players of the tournament for Russia. He also earned a silver medal in last year's tournament.
In the gold medal game, Joey Anderson and Team USA, who are a perfect 6-0 after yesterday's 4-3 shootout win over Russia in the semifinal, will face Blake Speers, Michael McLeod and Team Canada, whose only loss came at the hands of Team USA in their last game of the preliminary round. So far in the tournament, Anderson has two assists, Speers has a goal and two assists and McLeod has two goals. For all three, this is their first time at this tournament. Anderson and McLeod are also eligible to participate next year.
