The Devils annual Coat Drive will take place Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 when the club hosts the Ottawa Senators at Prudential Center at 7:00 PM. For the 14th straight season, the Devils have teamed-up with Jersey Cares.
Volunteers from Jersey Cares will be located at the PNC Bank and Verizon Towers, the Lafayette Street and VIP entrances, and the Ford Lincoln-Mercury Garage entrance to collect the coats. The wives/girlfriends of Devils’ players will also be on hand to assist.
Fans making a donation will be eligible to win autographed Devils’ memorabilia.
"We're very fortunate to be able to give back, especially at this time of year," said Devils forward Brian Rolston. "I think it's huge for fans to bring in as many coats as they can to help keep people warm. Coats are bare essentials that many of us take for granted."
Following the collection, the coats will be distributed by Jersey Cares to more than 200 non-profit agencies in New Jersey including shelters, social service organizations, senior citizen centers, and schools.
Saturday morning, more than 200 Jersey Cares volunteers will gather at Prudential Center for the 14th annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive sort-off. Teams of volunteers will help to sort through the coats received during Friday’s game and distribute them to partner agencies in the surrounding community. Over the past 13 years, Jersey Cares has collected, sorted and distributed thousands of winter coats to New Jersey residents in need through this program.
