Off to the dance.
A two goal second period catapulted the New Jersey Devils into the post-season for the first time on Thursday since 2012. The Devils lock in their spot in the post-season with a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in their final home game of the regular season.

Here are 10 takeaways from the game:
1. The Leafs opened the scoring at 6:56 on while the Devils were killing a Nico Hischier tripping penalty. The Devils gave up the first goal of the game and only goal of the period to the Maple Leafs.
2. The Devils ended the first period with some work to do in the goal scoring department but the Devils did lead in shots on goal. New Jersey held a 14-9 edge over Toronto and lead the Leafs in takeaways four to three. Blake Coleman, Kyle Palmieri, Stefan Noesen, Miles Wood and John Moore all fired two shots each at Maple Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen to lead the way for Devils.
3. The Devils would not be held scoreless for long once the second period resumed. Pavel Zacha scored his eighth goal of the season on a beautiful (and quick!) snipe from in close on Andersen. The Devils took advantage of some sloppy Leafs play at the blue line to force a turnover by Pat Maroon. Maroon then dished to puck to Zacha who took full advantage of the opportunity and tied the game at one at 7:55 of the second period.

4. As for Maroon's assist, it was his seventh since he was acquired at the Trade Deadline, and he has nine points altogether with the Devils in the 16 games he has played. Maroon would later add another assist on Miles Wood's go-ahead goal in the second period.
5. Wood would score on Andersen's doorstep at 17:02 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead on the Leafs. The bulk of the work on the goal was done by Maroon who protected the puck from the blue line, across the ice and down behind the net and dropping a pass to Wood. Wood was parked in front of Andersen and was able to tap home his shot for the Devils first lead of the night.

The goal also marked Wood's first on home ice since Feb 11 and Maroon's second assist of the evening. Mirco Mueller also assisted on the goal.
6. Keith Kinkaid made his eighth consecutive start in net and had to come up with some big saves against the high-powered Leafs. Kinkaid stopped 31 of 32 shots in the contest. 7. The New Jersey Devils hosted their final regular season game against Toronto. After 41 home games the Devils had a record of 23-14-4 on home ice this season. Compare that to last season where the Devils had only a 16-17-8 record at home, this team is much improved.
8. Taylor Hall's point streak came to an end after nine games, scoring eight goals and nine assists for 17 points. While he wasn't able to contribute on the scoreboard against the Leafs he did have a team high four (tied with Stefan Noesen) shots and played 16:26.
9. The Devils outshot the Leafs 39-32 and held the Leafs to 12 shots in the third period as they were trying to find their equalizer.
10. The New Jersey Devils will close out their regular season in Washington on Saturday night.
