Devils claim Sheldon Brookbank off waivers
by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devilsnewjerseydevils.com – The Devils today claimed defenseman Sheldon Brookbank off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets. The announcement was made by Devils’ CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
Brookbank, 27, posted 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points and 176 penalty minutes in 78 games with Milwaukee (AHL) last season. In 2006-07, he won the Eddie Shore Trophy as the league’s outstanding defenseman, was named to the AHL’s First All-Star Team, and played in the league’s All-Star Game. Brookbank made his NHL debut by appearing in three games with Nashville, February 6-10, 2007, posting his first career point with an assist February 6 at Pittsburgh. Born in Lanigan, Sask., he is in his seventh pro season, and has also seen action with Mississippi (ECHL), Grand Rapids (AHL), and Cincinnati (AHL). Undrafted, he was signed as a free agent by Columbus July 1, 2007.
