PRE-GAME STORY

SUNRISE, Fla. -The Devils held a full morning skate Saturday morning at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise. They had full attendance at the practice, including forward Nolan Foote, who was recalled by the club on Friday.
Forwards Miles Wood (undisclosed) and Nathan Bastian (upper-body) did not make the trip and are unavailable for the weekend. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood did travel and was on the ice for morning skate.
The Devils used the following workflow…
Tatar - Hischier - Mercer
Palat - Hughes - Bratt
Meier - Haula - Boqvist
Sharangovich - McLeod - Lazar
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Graves - Marino
Smith - Severson
Schmid worked the starter's crease.
Switch
The Devils switched up their lines with Ondrej Palat joining Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt, while Timo Meier skated with Erik Haula and Jesper Boqvist.
"If you look at most teams, you might find a line that'll stay together. But there is usually one that'll swing," head coach Lindy Ruff said. "Sometimes with us it's matchups. So, to try to get away from a matchup I might put a guy on a different line. It depends on how they're going that night."
Bratt has played a lot with Hughes over the years, and the Palat-Hughes-Bratt trio played together in the early part of the season.
"Every guy on the team is an extremely good player. I think there are only good lines on this team," Bratt said. "It doesn't matter who I play with. I'm trying to do my job no matter what. We have some great players. Me and Jack and Pally have played a lot of hockey together. I'm excited for that going forward."
Playoff Mode
While the Devils are ramping up for the playoffs, the Florida Panthers are basically already in playoff mode. Florida is on the outside of a playoff position (ninth spot) and fighting to get in.
"This is good for us because the whole idea is we want to be playoff ready and they're trying to get there now," defenseman Brendan Smith said. "So, you're getting good tests right now.
That's why this is a fun time of the year. Because everybody is playing their best whether to up their game to get themselves ready or they're trying to make the playoff push. We'll have good competition. We're trying to make sure we have the right mindset going in."
Palat knows firsthand how dangerous the Panthers are. He played against them a lot during his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning, including a couple of grueling playoff series.
"They have it all. They have great skill, a good D core, they have toughness too," Palat said. "That's what I remember from the playoff series. They were a tough team to play against. I don't expect anything less today because they're chasing it. It's going to be a tough game."
Course Correct
Though the Devils know a lot is at stake for the Panthers, a lot is on the line for New Jersey as well.
"It's an extremely important game for us," Bratt said. "We're coming off two losses against Tampa. We're hungry for more. We're more focused on our game. They're going to come out hard. Every single game that we have now until the end of the season is going to be really tough games with desperate teams. We just have to match that. We're focused on our game."
"The losses to Tampa was the first time we've had back-to-back losses in a while," Smith said. "We've done a good job of coming back after a loss. That was tough. So we're just going to try to correct it tonight."
