The Devils' 2016-17 home schedule, which was released Tuesday, includes 19 weekend dates: six Friday games, nine Saturday matches and four Sunday contests. New for this season, all Friday night home games will now have a 7:30 p.m. start time.
The home slate also includes seven early weekend starts: Saturday, Dec. 31 vs. Washington (1 p.m.); Sunday, Feb. 12 vs. San Jose (12:30 p.m.); Saturday, Feb. 25 vs. NY Rangers (5 p.m.); Sunday, March 5 vs. Columbus (5 p.m.); Sunday, March 19 vs. Columbus (1 p.m.); Sunday, March 26 vs. Dallas (5 p.m.) and Sat., April 8 vs. NY Islanders (6 p.m.).
Here are some key dates to mark on your calendar for the 2016-17 regular season:
Thursday, Oct. 13: Drop the puck The Devils open the new campaign on the road against the Florida Panthers.
Tuesday, Oct. 18: Welcome to The Rock Hockey is back! It’s the Devils’ home opener at Prudential Center against the Anaheim Ducks.
Friday, Oct. 28: Home Turf The Chicago Blackhawks visit Prudential Center during a four-game Devils homestand.
Wednesday, Nov. 23: Turning over a new Leaf Projected first-overall pick Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs make their first trip to the Garden State.
Friday, Nov. 25: Turkey & Wings Take a break from your Black Friday shopping when the Devils welcome the Detroit Red Wings to New Jersey.
Saturday., Nov. 26: Pitt Trip Coach John Hynes’ squad hits the road for its first meeting with the 2016 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sunday, Dec. 11 & Sunday, Dec. 18: Battles of Broadway A four-game, eight-day road trip begins and ends with Sunday matchups against the rival Rangers.
Thursday, Dec. 22: Interstate Love Song The Devils host the Philadelphia Flyers for the first of five meetings (3 home/ 2 road). Philadelphia returns to Prudential Center on Thursday, March 16 and Tuesday, April 4. The Flyers are the only club to visit New Jersey three times this season.
Tuesday, Dec. 27: Title Tour The Penguins make their first visit to New Jersey in the Devils’ first game after the three-day NHL holiday break.
Saturday, Dec. 31: Rockin’ Eve Ring in 2017 with a 1 p.m. matinee matchup between the Devils and the 2016 Presidents’ Trophy winners, the Washington Capitals.
All-Star Break (Jan. 27-30) All-Star Game, Sunday, Jan. 29 at Los Angeles
Monday, Feb. 6 - Saturday, Feb. 18: Home Sweet Home The Devils play a season-high five-game homestand featuring contests against Buffalo, San Jose (Sunday, Feb. 12), Colorado (Tuesday, Feb. 14), Ottawa (Thursday, Feb. 16), and NY Islanders.
Saturday, Feb. 25: River Rivals The Devils meet the Rangers for the first time at Prudential Center, and at a special time: 5 p.m. The rivals battle again at The Rock on Tuesday, March 21.
