The Captain is expected to be back in the lineup sooner rather than later. Devils defenseman Andy Greene was back at practice on Thursday and hopes to return to game-action on Friday when the Devils host the Calgary Flames at Prudential Center at 7:30PM.
On Jan. 10, the Devils placed Greene on Injured Reserve, retroactive to Jan. 3 due to a left arm injury suffered against the Carolina Hurricanes. Prior to missing the past 12 games (ending his iron man streak at 350), the blue-liner totaled three goals and six assists in 39 games played this season.
Although Andy Greene feels ready to return to the ice, he knows the decision will ultimately come down to Head Coach John Hynes who is very optimistic regarding Greene's status. "It looks like he'll be a full go." Hynes continued, "It's nice to bring some injection back into our team. When he went down it was the first time in a long time the Devils played without Andy Greene. It's someone you're excited to have back."
Greene is a welcome addition to the lineup after Coach Hynes explained that defenseman Jon Merrill is listed day-to-day with an upper body injury. Hynes stated that Merrill will be out of the lineup on Friday, and the earliest he will be available will be on Monday vs. the Sabres.
