Defenseman Andrew MacWilliam signs one-year contract

Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today signed free agent defenseman Andrew MacWilliam to a one-year, two-way contract worth $575,000 at the NHL level. The announcement was made by Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
MacWilliam, 26, spent last season with Manitoba (AHL) scoring one goal and 14 assists for 15 points and 86 penalty minutes in 72 games played. He spent two-plus seasons, 2012-13 through 2014-15, with the Toronto organization. That stint included playing 12 games with the parent club in 2014-15, notching two assists. He was the Maple Leafs’ eighth choice (seventh round) and the 188th overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The native of Calgary, Alberta, played four seasons with the University of North Dakota, 2009-10 through 2012-13, where he served as captain in his senior season. In four years at UND, he tallied four goals and 27 assists for 31 points in 163 games. His squads won the WCHA Conference Championship in each of his seasons there. The 6’2”, 230lb. MacWilliam played his junior hockey with Camrose (AJHL).
