There's a new banner in the rafters at Prudential Center, and though it doesn't say "Stanley Cup Champions," head coach Pete DeBoer is still proud of what his club achieved last season.
They won a Game 7 on the road in Florida, then knocked off their two top rivals–the Flyers and Rangers–to reach the Final versus Los Angeles. After falling behind 3-0 against the Kings, the Devils rallied with two victories before falling in Game 6.
The Devils' defense of their 2011-12 Eastern Conference crown continues with Tuesday's home opener against Philadelphia.
"Every year you look at a team and you use the adage, Did they empty the tank?" DeBoer said Tuesday. "I really believe we did last year even though we didn't win. There's nothing worse than going into a summer where you know your team didn't empty the tank and give you everything they had. That wasn't the case last year, so I'm very proud of all our accomplishments."
DeBoer will use the same lineup from Saturday's 2-1 win at Long Island. The lines at morning skate were:
Dainius Zubrus - Travis Zajac - Ilya Kovalchuk Mattias Tedenby - Patrik Elias - David Clarkson Ryan Carter - Stephen Gionta - Steve Bernier Stefan Matteau - Jacob Josefson - Cam Janssen
Bryce Salvador - Marek Zidlicky Andy Greene - Mark Fayne Henrik Tallinder - Anton Volchenkov
Martin Brodeur (Johan Hedberg)
