Catching up with... Bryce Salvador

by Staff Writer / New Jersey Devils
Salvador's NHL totals include 16 goals and 47 assists in 455 games. – It has been a little more than five months since he got to New Jersey, and Bryce Salvador is already eager to start his first full season as a Devil.

The 6-2, 220-lb. defenseman arrived via trade from St. Louis last February, but was limited by a sore foot to just eight regular season games before hitting the ice in the playoffs.

After re-signing with the Devils on July 1, Salvador has spent part of his summer transitioning into New Jersey life.

Now that training camp is just a few weeks away, the native of Brandon, Manitoba, recently stopped by Prudential Center and shared some details on his activities this offseason.

Salvador: This has been a busy summer, but busy in a good way.

My family and I traveled to Canada for about a month to visit family and friends, and I had a chance to join a couple of my former teammates, Barrett Jackman and Jamal Mayers, at a hockey training academy that we run for kids.  Between that and trying to find a place and get things organized here in New Jersey, we've had a lot going on.

I'm excited to be coming into my first Devils training camp. I'm looking forward to be able to come in this time at the start of the season instead of getting here towards the end like I did last year. I can spend more time with the guys and get to know the group a little bit better.

It's hard not to be thrilled about this season with Brian Rolston and Bobby Holik coming here. Those are two big acquisitions, and I was excited to see it. It shows that management here has a real commitment to the fans. This organization means business, and we want to win. It's great when you sign here then see moves to improve the team.

I enjoyed my time here at the end of the season, and I was fortunate enough that I was traded to a good organization. I was able to see how they ran things here, and it made it easy to decide on staying in New Jersey.

My family's excited to begin this new chapter in our lives.
