WHAT'S THE BUZZ

"Kemell is a well-rounded winger who has almost every NHL attribute you want other than the size at 5-foot-11. He brings skill and speed to his shifts, showing the ability to carry the puck up ice and create chances for himself and his teammates. Kemell can pass the puck very well, but his shot is his main weapon."
-Corey Pronman, The Athletic

CUT TO THE CHASE

The Finnish forward's one-timer is considered lethal and not the only tool in his arsenal of shots. Already playing against men in the Finnish Liiga, the 18-year-old has a one-timer and wrist shot with plenty of power behind them to translate into goals, with his quick and deceptive release. Kemell is already living out a hockey dream, playing for JYP, the Finnish team he grew up cheering for, he has been in their system from his early hockey playing days, including this past season in the professional league as a 17-year-old. His 23 points led all U18 players in Liiga, as did his number of games, goals and assists.
An area of criticism is his skating, described by some as 'choppy' and lacking additional power, with a lack of explosiveness in his opening strides, all things that can be worked on with proper skating coaching and more development.
Kemell is under contract to remain in Liiga with JYP for the 2022-23 hockey season.

"I think David Pastrnak, I like how he plays, and his style how he plays. He has a good shot, vision, and eyes. I like him." Kemell, on who he models his game after.
