Wrapping up year two of a four year deal with the Devils, Miles Wood saw an increase in playing time and as a result production. Wood was fifth in goals for the team and eighth in points. He saw action in 68 games and averaged 17.2 shifts per game. Here's what you need to know about the Devils forward in this edition of Three Things presented by Wawa.

STEADY AS HE GOES

Miles Wood saw his second most games played in a season throughout the course of the 2019-20 campaign, appearing in 68 games for the Devils. Wood's career high comes from the 2017-18 season, where he played 76 games. With this year's season cut short due to COVID-19, there was potential for Wood to at least tie, if not surpass that 76 game mark.

Wood was also one of the most consistently used players on the team. He and P.K. Subban are tied for second with games played this past season at 68. Damon Severson and Travis Zajac led the team in appearances at 69.

Wood contributed on the power play and saw just short of 54 minutes total minutes, and an average of 47 seconds on man-advantage situations this season. When it came to even strength play, Wood played a total of 842 minutes and averaged 12:23 time on ice.

LIGHT IT UP

With eleven goals, Wood had the fifth most goals on the team this year. His only multi-goal night this season was in February when the Devils faced the Philadelphia Flyers on the road. Wood had the fourth and fifth goals of the night for New Jersey and led the team to a 5-0 victory against a rival and tough opponent.

Wood had some goals when it counted the most - against top-teams in the league. He notched goals against Washington twice - once in December, once in January, against Tampa Bay in January, Pittsburgh before the pause in March, and of course, the two goals against Philadelphia in February. Arguably his most important goal was back on October 17th against the New York Rangers. Wood had the game winning goal and helped the team break a six-game losing streak at the start of the season and get their first win of the 2019-20 campaign.

IF YOU'RE NOT FIRST, YOU'RE LAST

Miles Wood learned the hard lesson of finishing last in fantasy football. The team held a fantasy football league this season, and after Travis Zajac was crowned winner, he had the honor to chose the punishment for the loser. Zajac, with help from Kyle Palmieri, picked a bright gold snakeskin printed suit for Wood to wear during their West Coast road trip as penance.

Maybe wearing this suit for the three California games the Devils played (San Jose, L.A., and Anaheim) will motivate Wood to perform better in next year's fantasy football season? Wood finishes last the past two season so he will need some extra motivation to break that streak.
