Boucher notches 51st, nears new team mark

by Eric Marin / New Jersey Devils

With 51 goals already under his belt, Reid Boucher is on the verge of making Sarnia Sting history.

Boucher notched his OHL-leading 50th of the season on Friday, helping Sarnia to a 2-1 win over Windsor. He added his 51st the next night when the Sting topped Oshawa, 4-2.

New Jersey's fourth-round pick, 99th overall, in 2011, Boucher is poised to eclipse the team mark of 58 goals set by Steven Stamkos in 2007-08. Boucher's just the fourth player in Sting history to score 50-or-more goals in a season, joining Stamkos, Ivan Novoseltsev (57) and Jon Sim (56, twice).

The record is within reach. Boucher has 11 goals in 10 February games; he's seven behind Stamkos with 10 games to go.

Sarnia is back in action Thursday against Sault Ste. Marie.
