Boucher, Merrill score in Thursday scrimmage

by Eric Marin / New Jersey Devils

Goals by Jon Merrill and Ryan Misiak keyed a 3-1 comeback scrimmage win for White at rookie camp on Thursday.

Reid Boucher opened the scoring for Red, beating Anthony Brodeur at 14:03 of the first period. Merrill tied things up in the second, putting a shot off the post and past Scott Wedgewood at 10:45. Misiak, a camp invitee entering his junior season at Mercyhurst (Atlantic), then gave White its first lead through a scramble at 13:03. Ben Johnson iced it with an empty netter with 1:01 to go.

Merrill, 21, made his pro debut last season with Albany (AHL), potting a goal and seven assists in 12 games. The 6-4 defenseman was the Devils' second-round pick in 2010. Boucher, 19, scored 62 goals last year for Sarnia (OHL) to break Steven Stamkos' single-season team record. The native of Lansing, Mich., was selected in the fourth round, 99th overall, in 2011.

Jake Hildebrand (Michigan St., CCHA) started in goal for Red and did not allow a goal. Brandon Hope (Owen Sound, OHL) entered at the start of the second for White and thwarted a late surge from the Red squad.

With 7.7 seconds to go, Seth Helgeson (6-5, 215 lbs.) fought Oleg Yevenko (6-7, 250-lbs.), getting the best of Yevenko in a scrap at center ice.

Helgeson, 22, was selected by the Devils in the fourth round, 114th overall, in 2009. The blueliner made his pro debut last season with four appearances in Albany (AHL).

The 22-year-old Yevenko, a camp invitee, spent the last two seasons at UMass-Amherst (Hockey East).
