Jesper Boqvist Signed

Today, New Jersey Devils restricted free-agent forward Jesper Boqvist accepted his qualifying offer, which results in a one-year, two-way contract worth $874,125 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Boqvist, 23, completed his third NHL season, all with New Jersey. The 6'0", 180lbs. forward set career highs last season in games played (56), goals (10), assists (13) and points (23). Boqvist recorded a three-game goal streak and four-game point streak, which also marked career highs. Additionally, he achieved a milestone last season skating in his 100th career NHL game on March 23. In 119 career NHL games, he's scored 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points with 20 PIMs.
The left-handed shot also played in seven games this season for New Jersey's American Hockey League affiliate, Utica Comets, tallying eight points (2g-6a) in seven games.

Born on October 30, 1998, the native of Falun, Sweden was New Jersey's second-round selection, 36th overall, in the 2017 NHL Draft. Prior to his NHL experience, Boqvist spent parts of two seasons in the AHL with the Binghamton Devils from 2019-20 to 2020-21 and recorded 18 points (10g-8a) in 27 games.
Additionally, the 23-year-old spent parts of four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Brynas IF from 2015-16 to 2018-19 and totaled 55 points (16g-39a) in 98 games over that span.
Boqvist represented his home country in international play and won Silver Medals at both the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) under-18 World Junior Championship (WJC) in 2015-16 and under-20 WJC in 2017-18. He was also teammates on Sweden with fellow Devils forward Fabian Zetterlund at the 2017-18 WJC.
