Miles Wood and Patrik Elias had a nice little chat on the ice today at Devils practice. The Devils legend was helping Wood out by providing a little advice.
Sometimes the smallest tweak to equipment can make a big difference. It's why professional hockey players obsess over tape jobs or their sticks, laces, or skates.
For Wood, Elias' advice was to use a longer stick instead of the one he already had cut.
"He thinks it's a little too short," said Wood. "I had (the equipment staff) put a little knob on the stick, just to extend it for practice and I kinda liked it."
The difference it makes is subtle, but can help a lot.
"I just wasn't so hunched over, I guess," said Wood. "That's what Patty was saying, that I play to hunched over. If you have a longer stick, you stand up more and you can see the ice better. That's just what he was explaining to me."
