The New Jersey Devils claimed goaltender Aaron Dell off waivers Monday. Dell started the year with the Toronto Maple Leafs, although he had not played for the Canadian club yet this season.
Dell has played 107 games in the National Hockey League, 89 of which he started. All of those games were with the San Jose Sharks. The Airdrie, Alberta native played his most games during the 2019-20 season where he played 33 games and started 30 of those. He had a 12-15-3 record while averaging 3.01 goals against, and a .907 save percentage last season.
Devils Head Coach Lindy Ruff discussed this addition to the goaltending rotation following Monday's practice.
"I think it just gives us goalie depth," said Ruff. "If you have an injury, you've got another guy that has NHL experience so we can put it in the pipes and help us along the way if something happens."
Throughout his NHL career Dell has a 48-34-12 record with a 2.76 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. Dell is the newest goaltender acquisition for the Devils as they picked up Eric Comrie off waivers last week.
