BUFFALO – Joe Blandisi scored a pair of goals and John Quenneville
added two assists for the Devils, who wrapped up their Prospects Challenge with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins at HarborCenter on Sunday.
Quenneville recorded helpers on both of Blandisi’s goals, including the go-ahead marker that made it 3-2 Devils in the third period. Boston’s Jakub Zboril responded to force OT before Frank Vatrano ended it 13 seconds into the extra session with his second of the night.
Ken Appleby made 36 saves, including 19 of 20 in the third period, to help the Devils rebound from Saturday’s loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
Blandisi opened the scoring in the first period and Matt Lorito upped the lead to 2-0 during a middle frame that saw the Devils outshoot Boston, 20-9. Lorito was slotted at wing with Blake Coleman on a top line centered by 2015 sixth overall pick Pavel Zacha, both of whom chipped in on his goal.
Max Novak and Ryan Rehill each finished with an assist. Quenneville had three points (1g-2a) in the two-game Challenge.
Blandisi is no stranger to the scoresheet. Last season’s OHL Overage Player of the Year, he led the league with 52 goals and finished fourth with 112 points for Barrie. The Markham, Ontario, native signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Devils in January.
