Nate Bastian Re-Signs

The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team re-signed right wing Nate Bastian to a two-year contract worth $2,700,000 with an annual average value of $1,350,000. The contract breakdown is as follows: 2023-24: $1,350,000 and 2024-25: $1,350,000. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Bastian, 25, completed his fourth NHL season after spending parts the last four campaigns with New Jersey with a brief stint in Seattle at the start of the 2021-22 season. The right-handed shot played in 43 regular-season contests and totaled 15 points (6g-9a) in 2022-23. Bastian recorded a career-high +7 plus/minus rating and logged 31 PIM. His 99 hits ranked third among all New Jersey forwards last season and his hits per 60 minutes of ice time (11.10) led all Devils skaters who played in more than 10 regular-season games. Bastian has totaled 453 hits with the Devils, which leads all New Jersey skaters since the start of the 2018-19 season.

The 6-foot-4, 205lbs. forward was one of eight Devils who played their first career Stanley Cup Playoff game this past season. He played in all 12 postseason games and recorded his first-career postseason goal and point (1g-1a).

In 163 career regular-season contests, Bastian has totaled 127 PIM and 46 points (24g-22a). He also posted a career-high three power-play goals in 2021-22.

Born on December 6, 1997, the native of Kitchener, Ontario, was New Jersey's second-round selection, 41st overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft. Before his professional experience, Bastian spent parts of four seasons, from 2013-14 through 2016-2017, in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) skating for the Mississauga Steelheads, where he served as an alternate captain during the 2016-17 season. He and Michael McLeod were teammates in Mississauga from 2014-15 until 2016-17.
