The $375 million Prudential Center, slated to open in October 2007, will be the first major sports and entertainment venue to open in the nation’s top media market in over 25 years.
“This partnership with AEG is but another step in our objective to make Prudential Center one of the premier and most utilized venues in the country,” said Jeffrey Vanderbeek. “AEG’s track record of successfully operating venues, combined with the major events and the most popular shows produced and promoted by AEG Live, will provide a level of entertainment that takes advantage of the tremendous state-of-the-art features of Prudential Center.”
With its management of Prudential Center in the New Jersey/New York market, AEG now programs, manages, operates, or is developing major venues in the world’s top entertainment markets including STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, The O2 London (opening in June 2007) and The O2 World in Berlin (opening in 2008).
“We are extremely proud to embark on this exciting partnership with the New Jersey Devils,” said AEG’s Nick Sakiewicz. “This brand new, world-class arena will be one of the nation’s finest sports and entertainment venues and a tremendous asset to the local community and region.”
Concerts starring some of the most popular recording artists, family shows, special events, and awards shows will be booked at Prudential Center by AEG Live. An industry leader with an annual roster of prestigious national and international tours, AEG Live is currently promoting tours starring Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Cheetah Girls and Rod Stewart as well as the American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and High School Musical arena shows. In addition, AEG Live recently concluded tours featuring Bon Jovi, Usher, Paul McCartney, Prince, Kenny Chesney, and Nickelback.
“The northern New Jersey market traditionally supports and appreciates great concerts and popular shows,” said Debra Rathwell, Sr. Vice President, AEG Live. “Prudential Center will not only be the newest and best venue in this region, but one that every tour will route through as New Jersey has always been considered an important booking for national tours.”
Prudential Center will feature a 4,800 square-foot, state-of-the-art exterior LED screen, the latest in ice-surface technology, and a gourmet restaurant overlooking the event floor. The venue will contain 76 luxury suites, 2,200 club seats, 750 television monitors, 12 escalators, eight elevators, and an array of fan amenities and conveniences, including the richly appointed Fire and Ice Lounges for premium seat holders. Prudential Center will seat 17,625 people for hockey games, 18,500 for basketball games, and 19,500 for concerts.
AEG co-owns and operates Red Bull Park, currently under construction in Harrison, New Jersey. This 25,000 capacity outdoor venue will be home to Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls.
“The Prudential Center, a state-of-the-art indoor facility, will complement our existing outdoor stadium project at Red Bull Park, with each venue giving us a great opportunity to showcase the best in sports and live entertainment programming,” Sakiewicz said.
