First-overall pick spotlight
It wasn't long ago that Nico Hischier was selected with the first-overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft by the Devils and quickly became the new face of the franchise. Finally, we'll be able to see what Hischier can do when he takes on an opposing team for the first time as a Devil. New Jersey's coaches and evaluators praised the Swiss center at Development Camp and are eager to see how he will adjust to game action against more top-level talent.
Bill the Butcher
Since the 2016-17 season concluded, New Jersey has been searching for depth at the blue line. The Devils were able to do just that when the team recruited the 2017 NCAA Hobey Baker Award winner Will Butcher to sign with New Jersey. Butcher is a 22-year-old defenseman hailing from the University of Denver and is expected to bring an offensive mentality to the ice, something the Devils have been in the hunt for. While in Buffalo, keep an eye on Butcher's ability to spark the Devils' power play unit, something that was his bread and butter at the collegiate level.
Another year older, another year wiser
There are five Devils that skated with the team during the 2016-17 season that will be venturing up to western New York. The list consists of defensemen Michael Kapla and Steven Santini, and forwards Nick Lappin, John Quenneville and Blake Speers. With a crop of fresh talent coming into The Rock this season, expect this group to look to leave their mark on the round-robin tournament.
