The Devils (10-6-5) are in Winnipeg tonight to take on the Jets (10-12-2). Here's what you need to know:
1) Michael Cammalleri hasn't missed a beat since rejoining the team after his daughter's illness. He's earned four goals and four assists in the past three games as well as the NHL's second star of the week. Speaking of guys returning to the team, Taylor Hall skated with the team yesterday for the first time since being diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his left knee and having arthroscopic surgery just two weeks ago. His recovery was expected to be three to four weeks and he is traveling with the team during this three-game stretch. There's a better than good chance he will get into a game on this road trip, but head coach John Hynes has already said it won't be tonight. Miles Wood has been recalled from Albany, just in case.
2) I asked Hynes yesterday afternoon what his goalie game plan was for this trip and his response was, "That's a very good question. I don't have an answer for you yet." The assumption is that Cory Schneider (8-5-3, .915 save percentage, 2.53 GAA) will get the start tonight, but apparently that's up for discussion, especially after Keith Kinkaid's (2-1-2, .933 save percentage, 2.35 GAA) 46 save performance on Saturday against Pittsburgh. I'll have a more definitive answer after morning skate. I also asked him if we'd see the 11/7 mix of forwards and defenseman again and he said yes, at some point, but not necessarily on this trip.
3) The Devils have had a rough stretch going 2-3-2 in the past two weeks with the last three games requiring bonus hockey. They've also struggled on the road (3-6-3) and look to get those numbers back to .500 with a successful road trip this week.
