The Devils (9-5-3) will take on the Sharks (9-8-1) tonight at SAP Center in San Jose. Here's what you need to know.
1) Keith Kinkaid, who stopped 30 shots for a shutout win in this building last season, will start tonight in goal as the team looks to start a new winning streak. There are no anticipated lineup changes from Saturday, which means Yohann Auvitu remains out with a day-to-day upper body injury and Jacob Josefson is a healthy scratch.
2) The Devils rank third in the league for the fewest goals allowed with a total of 38. Their challenge has been generating offense as they presently rank 26th in scoring with 40 goals so far this season. The good news is they've improved over last season in terms of their success scoring 5-on-5 and effectively implementing the transition game, and getting offense from the defense. As soon as their go-to scoring options start putting the puck in consistently, the Devils could be a serious force to be reckoned with.
3) The Sharks are struggling with similar offensive woes, scoring one more goal in total than the Devils thus far, while also playing one more game. They are led by captain Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns and Joe Thornton with 16, 14 and 12 goals, respectively.
