10/14 Pregame Notes: Devils at Rangers

Last Game: New Jersey 2, Washington 5
The Devils lost to the Washington Capitals 5-2 to fall to 3-1-0 in 2017-18. New Jersey is now 0-5-2 at Prudential Center against Washington since the 2013-14 season.

New Jersey was 1-4 on the power play tonight and is 5-17 (29.4%) on the PP through four games. The Devils were out-shot 28-23. 

Kyle Palmieri scored his first goal of the season and the 100th of his NHL career. Palmieri also assisted Taylor Hall's 2nd period power play goal and has two multi-point games in three GP.

Hall's goal was his first of the season and he now has four points (1g-3a) in four games played.

Will Butcher had the secondary assist on Hall's goal and leads all NHL rookies with six assists and four power play points.

Damon Severson recorded his first point of the year with an assist on Palmieri's goal. John Moore also chipped-in with an assist on Palmieri's goal for his third point (1g-2a) of the season.

Blake Coleman led the team with a career high 14 PIM and had four hits.

Cory Schneider made his fourth start of the season and stopped 23 of 28 shots (.821 save%) to fall to 3-1-0 on the season.  

TONIGHT'S GAME
zzz4The Devils are facing their Metropolitan Division rival New York Rangers for the first of four times this season (Dec. 9 @ NYR, Dec. 21/Apr. 3 @ NJ). New Jersey is 2-0-0 this season on the road and are 0-1-0 against the divisional opponents. 

New Jersey will wrap-up their first set of 16 back-to-back games tonight. The club is 0-1-0 in first games.

In 2016-17, the club was 1-1-2 against the Rangers, with their sole win, 3-2 OT, at home on Mar. 21 at Prudential Center. Kyle Palmieri led all Devils with 2G-3A-5PTS against NYR last season. The Devils also played the Rangers twice during preseason action, losing 3-4 OT, Sept. 21, at MSG, then winning 2-1, Sept. 23, at Prudential Center. Marcus Johansson has 4PTS (2G-2A) in his last two games against New York.

Cory Schneider played each game against the Rangers in 2016-17. With New Jersey, he is 5-5-3 with a 2.58 GAA and one shutout. Keith Kinkaid has yet to play a full game against New York in his NHL career.

The club is 7-7-3 vs. NYR and is 3-5-1 at the Garden since the 2013-14 season.
