NEWARK, NJ - Just like that, another Development Camp has wrapped up in New Jersey. And as is the custom, the week-long event closes with a Red versus White scrimmage which got underway on Saturday afternoon. In front of a packed house, the future generation of New Jersey Devils took to the ice for one last time before dispersing for the summer.

General managers around the NHL are putting in the work toward building their NHL rosters for the 2019-20 season and plenty of players have been on the move. It has been a whirlwind for several franchises and players and I took a look at several of your Free Agent stories around the NHL after the opening 48 hours.

1. We'll begin this 10 Takeaways with Devils general manager Ray Shero, who dipped into the free agency market on day one with the addition of forward Wayne Simmonds. Simmonds signed on the dotted line for one year at $5 million dollars, after spending last season split between the Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators. Both sides were just as excited as the other with the addition. Simmonds, who will wear No. 17 for New Jersey, said, "first and foremost, I'm going to help the Devils win. I think that's the most important part, to come in and create a winning culture and just help the team win."

General Manager Ray Shero made the biggest deal of the day that generated a lot of buzz around Rogers Arena and the NHL. It was quite the night for the New Jersey Devils as the latest piece of the puzzle has been added to the roster. The Devils franchise took a giant step forward after using their first round, first overall selection to kick off the 2019 NHL Draft! 

1. Welcome to New Jersey, Jack! After weeks of speculation on which way the New Jersey Devils management would go, it's Jack Hughes who is the newest addition to the Devils family.

"I've been waiting for this moment all my life but now this is a new chapter for me," Hughes said after being drafted.

2. Surprise! It wasn't Ray Shero or Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Castron making the pick for New Jersey. It was Devils great and Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur who had the pleasure of announcing the Hughes pick to the packed house in Vancouver. Brodeur was drafted himself in 1990 in Vancouver, right next door to Rogers Arena at BC Place.

SUNRISE, FL - On Saturday night, Game 82 of the regular season, the Devils propelled themselves over the Florida Panthers in a 4-3 victory. Rookie Nathan Bastian had the first two-goal game of his career, Pavel Zacha added a goal of his own to mark his 22nd birthday and the penalty kill was perfect yet again. The Panthers made a game of it after scoring the equalizer with less than two minutes to play in regulation.
