Today’s practice at the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale was highlighted by the fact that two of the last people on the ice were Peter Mueller and Kyle Turris. They looked like two kids having a great time on a frozen pond as they cycled the puck around and continued to get a better feel for the others skills. Clearly, these guys have hit it off as friends, and teammates. Needless to say, this is a great sign as they will skate together on a line with Shane Doan
Turris also worked on the number one power play unit with Radim Vrbata
and Doan up front, and Mueller and Ed Jovanovski patrolling the points. He looked very much at home on the half wall as most great playmakers do. If you give this kid time and space, he is going to make plays. Like Mueller, Turris has a special brand of hockey sense, and on ice vision that cannot be taught.
For the fans out there who have not purchased tickets for Thursday night’s home finale against Dallas, you are about to miss something special. The opportunity to see a future star play in his first NHL game only happens once. Special players make special plays so don’t be surprised if Kyle Turris does something on the ice that makes TV Analyst Darren Pang say, “Holy Jumpin’”.
After the coaches left the ice, PhoenixCoyotes.com caught up with Wayne Gretzky, and Associate Coach Rick Tocchet to get an update on day two of Kyle Turris’ pro career. Wayne Gretzky chatted with the media Rick Tocchet gives his thoughts on Kyle Turris
